Navratra : 8th day: Day Of Maha Gouri
Navratra the nine
days of worship are reaching to climax. Today is the Ashtami
or eighth day. The Goddess is being worshiped in the form of
Maha Gouri. Goddess in this form is with most fair skin color,
four armed Goddess uses bull as Her vehicle of transportation.
In this Form every thing in white color used for the offering
to Goddess. Milk, white flowers and curd are the best offering
for a boon from the Goddess. It is common faith that on this
day worshiping the Goddess in white cloth prove sufficient to
get escaped from sins of not only this birth but also from the
previous births.
According to Puranas, when Maa Parvati, was meditating hard
for having a boon, for having Lord Shiva, as the husband and
life partner. Tough climatic conditions and prolonged time has
turned her body color into most deepest and black. After
getting the boon, Lord Shiva decided to bring the normal body
color of her so he decided to wash Parvati’s whole body with
water from most scared river Ganga. It was effect of water
from Ganga that skin color of Goddess become most fair in the
world and this is the form in which Goddess is worshiped as
Maha Gouri.
Many people are ending their Navratra fasts on this day this
also adds significance to the day though many people extended
their fasts up to next day that is day of Maha Navami the last
day of Navratra.
