Dasara: All set for a business boost

There is a Marathi saying “Dasara san motta nahi anandala totta” [Dasara is a great festival and so are the enjoyments around it]. Considering the changed buying habits and attitude of Indians is forcing to change this saying to “Dasara san motta nahi kharedies totta” [Dasara is a great festival and so is the business boost around it].

India is a country with the fame of being non secular and the diversified religious faiths, festivals and celebrations are making her the land of festivals. There are very strong traditions for religious celebrations and festivals are deeply rooted in the Indian culture and life style.

Traditionally Dasara, Dushehara or Dashehara is a festival of Hindus but the recent market trends have turn this into festival of Indians. According to mythology there are various reasons for this celebration one of these is, there was an evil spirit namely “Mahishasur” who was troubling all the people. The life was full of fear and troubles hence all the people decided to perform “Ghat Yagya” and worship Goddess Durga for rescue. The Yagya and worship went on for nine days[Navratari] and on each day Goddess was appearing in different forms, Aadishakati, Brihamcharani, Chandraghanta, Shailputari, Maha Gouri, Skandmata, Kaatiyani, Kaalratari and Kushmaand, in which form she killed Mahishasur on the tenth day and since than this day is celebrated as Dasara. Another reason says that on this day Lord Rama has killed Ravana during the Lanka war hence the day is celebrated as the mark of victory of Good over the bad.

The time has changed and days of living in same house for whole life, using the same car, two wheeler, refrigerator, washing machine or television set are the acts of the past. Modern housewives are showing more attitudes towards buying computers and electronic home appliances, even the computerized cooking systems are on the higher sides of buying priority list of middle class Indian families. Companies are launching new models of vehicles and home appliances every six months and finance option is increasing the buying capacities of middle class to infinity hence Dasara had taken shape of occasion for a great business boost. All most all the companies also come with special sales promotion schemes and offers.
