1.5 Million Coconuts Count
Shree Phal as it
is popularly known as is in Demand during Festival Season.
This Ganpati Time about 1.5 Million (15 Lakh) Coconuts will be
brought to kolhapur.
Coconuts are
offered to the deity at Various Mandals, & bigger coconuts are
used to make "Torans" as well. Also coconut is distributed as
"Prasad" at many places. Ganeshostav has increased the demand
for coconuts in the city. Around 50 - 60 extra trucks of
coconuts will be brought and sold in the city during these
festival days. One truck load carries approx Twenty to Twenty
two thousand coconuts. These coconuts mostly come from Tamil
Nadu while some from Karnataka. This year about 10 to 15 lakhs
coconuts will be brought to Kolhapur.
However even
though the incoming of Coconuts has increased still there is a
slight rise in the price of coconuts. Small ones have seen a
increase of Rs.20/- per hundred while Bigger ones are priced
higher by Rs.30/- per hundred in the Wholesale Market. This
will thus affect the cost at the retailers end to some extent.
